When joining our team at Ericsson you are empowered to learn, lead and perform at your best, shaping the future of technology. This is a place where you're welcomed as your own perfectly unique self, and celebrated for the skills, talent, and perspective you bring to the team. Are you in?

Come, and be where it begins.

Our Exciting Opportunity!

We are a small 6-unit-department with very passionate developers on the mission to build the world's best User Plane. We work in autonomous empowered teams, and we feel pride in making the world a better place, simplifying and improving the lives for billions.

For us, building mobile systems that makes remote health care and self-driving cars possible is very motivating. We are just in the beginning of our 5G journey, which will bring us even more possibilities, such as remote surgeries and unprecedented speeds.

We believe that the teams have the best knowledge in their respective areas and encourage creativity, self-organization and provide an environment for independent decision making. The teams consist of 5-7 developers each. Our office is located in the scenic and vibrant Lindholmen area in the central parts of Gothenburg just on the shore of the Göta Älv river.

Now we are looking for skilled Test Architect to join our teams!

What we believe in

  • We believe in trust- we trust each other to do the right things and taking decisions as close to the product and technical expertise as possible
  • We believe in creativity - trying new things and learning from our mistakes
  • We truly believe in happiness - we enjoy and feel passionate about what we do and value each other's technical competence deeply

Our product:

  • We are responsible for the development and maintenance of the Packet Core User Plane. The user plane handles packet routing and forwarding in the mobile data network between internet and the radio network. All 3G, 4G and 5G mobile traffic passes through the user plane. It runs on several platforms, including carrier-grade routers, virtual machines and containers.
  • We are continuously trying to beat the competition. Most recent achievements include delivering 193 Gbps throughput on an Intel processor-based server which was demonstrated on the Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2019.
  • We are market leaders and with mobile traffic from more than 2 billion people passing through our products (40% of the mobile traffic in the World).

Technologies we use:

  • To understand our product, knowledge of IP Protocols and Routing in an embedded environment is crucial. Most of our product code is written C/C++, test scripts are written in Gherkin on a Java framework, while we use Python for environment scripts.
  • Our products put high technical requirements on the team including high-performance application development, low latency requirements, multi-threaded programming, embedded development, DPDK knowledge and framework design in the IP Connectivity competence area.
  • Virtualization and containerization technologies such as Openstack, Vmware, Docker and Kubernetes are used.
  • Testing of the userplane is continuously moving left, where functional testing has a coverage of 80%. We have several test tools and frameworks for early testing, which poses the foundation for our current shift-left strategy. Inspiration has been taken from concepts such as chaos monkey testing and canary testing.
  • We develop in a Linux-environment, and code is committed to Git repositories. We are proud of our modern Continuous Integration and Deployment-frameworks using Jenkins with over 2500 commits per month and weekly pre-deliveries to customers.

As a test architect you will

  • Drive the work to set the test architecture of Userplane Core, i.e. how and in which stages testing should be done
  • Drive the establishment of a test vision in Userplane core that utilizes the Contiunuous Integration pipeline
  • Coach and collaborate with the userplane teams on HOW to test
  • Together with the Technical Test Coordinator handle co-ordination and prioritization of test tools and frameworks, including test automation for feature development
  • Spread the knowledge of the test architecture, its evolution plan and guidelines

To be successful in the role you must have

  • Passion for technology and testing
  • Love for continuously experimenting, learning more and understanding the latest trends
  • Big picture thinking and a wish to challenge current ways of working
  • Focus and ambition to understand customer needs and to transfer the needs into practical work and improvements.
  • BSc or MSc level in Computer Science or the equivalent level of knowledge

If you ever wonder how repetitive tasks can be automated so that you can focus on the work you love instead (and if you believe that software is more than just a job) then this role is for you!
