Our Exciting Opportunity

At Ericsson, we are developing system that uses beam forming technology to improve system performance in radio networks. Beam forming enables a mobile communication system to better utilize the bandwidth and gain better coverage. Beam forming comes in different variant e.g., SU-MIMO and MU-MIMO. Part of the thesis work will be to dive deeper into these methods and provide an accessible description of them. In test systems used for verifying beam forming different tools are used to simulate the transport of the RF signal through air. One of these tools is the Butler Matrix that is used to simulate directions.

The purpose of this master thesis is to compare how different types of test equipment influences the theoretical and ideal beam forming model.

You will

The master thesis objective is to make a proposal for improved test tools baseband feature verification. It includes the following step
  • Detailed study and analysis code book based and reciprocity-based beam forming
  • Create a location-based model for different types of beamforming
  • Apply the model for the system under test (SUT) and collect data
  • Assess the validity of the model using a graphical presentation
  • Investigate the impact by the imperfect test tools in the system

This is an option to review and use a multitude of test tools in different environments. It will present insights in both the strategic work and everyday life in a test organization.
