Our Exciting Opportunity

In a commercial radio network, Radio Unit serves as an important link between physical layer and higher layers of the communication network.

Contemporary FDD radios are increasingly facing the problem of passive intermodulation (PIM) due to the usage of multiple wireless bands on a base station site, as well as multi-band and multi-standard radio operation through a shared antenna. The intermodulation distortion degrades the receiver sensitivity and is currently a major challenge for the telecom operator.

Digital cancellation is the contemporary technology for mitigating receiver sensitivity degradation due to PIM. It involves the generation of a baseband model for the PIM distorted signal through non-linear filtering and then subtracting this modelled signal from the victimized receiver signal.

This thesis will investigate the proposition of understanding and characterizing the intermodulation sources, explore the different aspect of non-linear effects including effect of signal power and diverse PIM sources. The thesis work will also involve using these insights into applying signal processing techniques for creating a PIM model for cleaning the receiver signal. The outcome of this study would be used to enhance existing PIM Cancellation capabilities in our Radio.

The thesis project is hosted by Product Development Unit Radio in Kista and is part of a team developing digital signal processing algorithms for future radio products. Come join us!

You will

  • Work on topics at the forefront of technology developing new concepts and related to radio, algorithms and architecture solutions for Ericsson Radio.
  • Work on exciting projects considering new uses cases in the industrial domain.
  • You will help to develop world-leading concepts and solutions for current and future Radio systems which will turn Ericsson's vision of empowering an intelligent, sustainable and connected world into reality.


Qualifications

  • Enrolled as a Master's student in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with an above average record of accomplishment.
  • Strong interest in wireless communication technology.
  • Must have knowledge of signal processing techniques.
  • Eager to learn, self-driven and open-minded with very good team working skills.
  • Excellent computer and programming skills, e.g. MATLAB, C++, python.
  • Proficiency in English, any other language will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of data analysis techniques is an advantage.
