Our Exciting Opportunity

Ericsson has more than 20 000 engineers working in R&D with development and test of Ericsson products. This product development is highly dependent on shared storage service for the systems under development/test. The amount of mobile system products and generations supported (5G-2G) have also led to that a substantial amount of data has been created over a long time with limited housekeeping.

The intention, with this thesis work, is to perform an analysis on the stored data, like information type, how old it is, when was it use last time, who owns the data etc. and based on the findings develop a reporting platform to be re-used in a continuous data retention process. Technical platforms in use today are Netapp ONTAP/FabricPool and Storage Grid, SPLUNK (Data analysis) and Tableau (Reporting).

Thesis Description

The following steps are envisioned as part of the thesis work:
  • Investigate, analyze data on the shared storage used in R&D. Classify file types, ownership, by quantity, volume, location, and age, and store in a way that it can be retrieved by end users.
  • Develop information extraction ETL (Extract Transform Load) type of solution that will extract the information from the storage system and then load it to a pre-existing reporting solution.
  • Configure the reporting engine and user front end

The thesis will be concluded with a result presentation for the Ericsson R&D Storage team leaders and related Service Management.

  • Student of electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering or similar
  • Deep understanding of Linux file systems and analytics/reporting platforms is preferable
