Our Exciting Opportunity

Would you like to write a Master Thesis linked to 5G Baseband and sustainability?

5G is already a reality, and Ericsson is the leader in bringing it to the market. A large group of skilled developers are working energetically to convert 5G plans into reality. We are growing and looking for more talent.

Product Development Unit Baseband SW (PDU BB) is responsible for driving baseband software product development end to end by having competence and capability to take on full feature responsibility.

Background

Energy efficiency and sustainability is becoming increasingly interesting for all industries, including mobile network operators and mobile network vendors. Smart phones and tablets have heavily increased the network traffic during the last couple of years. The gain for smart, energy efficient networks are doubled with less environmental footprints as well as cost reductions by reduced energy bills.

Thesis Description

Investigate how to measure energy consumption
  • Collate existing material and study how other labs are gathering data about energy consumption both internal and external.
  • Study customer setup and see how they measure and follow-up energy efficiency.

Can we adapt our labs to benefit?
  • If possible, found out if there is a united way to measure and report energy consumption over the organization. Labs used in departments such as Radio, CAT, PDTC and Baseband all measure in the same way.
  • What is required from Ericsson products to improve/simplify the gathering of energy related information?
  • Prototype and demonstrate a way to make the energy consumption more visible both for customers and Ericsson personnel.
