Our Exciting Opportunity

Communication over noisy channels often require costly and complex filtering methods to function correctly. Design of such methods depend on accurate noise models of the (non-stationary) noise sources to maintain appropriate cost-performance tradeoff. This is particularly important with strongly non-linear interference such as intermodulation that otherwise can be costly to filter.

This thesis will investigate and design stochastic models for intermodulation affected (MIMO) communication systems under varying assumptions of source type and excitation with emphasis given to interpretable and verifiable models.

The thesis project is hosted by Product Development Unit Radio in Kista and is part of a team developing digital signal processing algorithms for future radio products.

Project goal

The students will study relevant literature, conduct theoretical work and develop training framework.

The thesis will consider the following activities:
  • Survey literature on appropriate (as per above) stochastic modelling frameworks.
  • Implement methods from survey and evaluate on a set of given datasets, from various intermodulation sources and signal power, to obtain a set of stochastic models.
  • Characterize and compare the non-stationary stochastic processes associated to above stochastic models.
  • If time permit, form recommendation for design of filtering methods for above intermodulation sources.


Qualifications

  • Enrolled as Master's student in mathematics/statistics (optimization, random processes, algorithms, machine learning, programming).
  • Excellent computer and programming skills, e.g. MATLAB, C++, python etc.
  • Must have knowledge of signal processing techniques.
